Gremlin & Yoda at 13 weeks

Post by Tambrey »

Well...I took these just this evening...Gremlin is still about half the size Yoda is, but she keeps up with him and is getting along great now...

Here is Gremlin wanting to climb my leg...YIKES!!

and a picture of Yoda in the window...

and I love this one...they settled down on my lap, I turned the camera around and took a blind aim at them, and managed to get a great shot :) (Yoda has his left front paw draped over Gremlin's shoulder)

These next two show a good variation in their size...it is hard to believe they are littermates and the same age...I got one with their tails as that really shows a difference...

Tambrey,

I too have two orange tabby sisters who are really different in size. Maggie is the size of a normal 3 month-old. Her sister Hanna, who was obviously the runt of the two, is only half her size. She still "nurses" off of the saucer when I give her canned food (actually she won't eat kibble and I've tried) and licks my mouth when I am sleeping and she is hungry. They were taken from their Mom at about 5 weeks of age. It really is hard to believe that they are from the same litter, but they love each other like there is no tomorrow.

Lisa.

PS Your babies are gorgeous.

Hi Lisa...
thank you, I think they are cute too :D

I have been raising these two since they were 9 days old... as well as 3 others from their litter and 2 orphaned from another, but because of a sickly mother and not a good start, they did not make it :(
It has been a rough road and with ALOT of help from this forum, and the people on it, we have made it this far...
Many nights up for hours on end...syringe then bottle feeding...bacteria and parasites and worms...Gremlin could not tolerate the meds at first and was very sick...I was giving pedialyte in a syringe as often as I could and she would take it...diahhrea so bad that she had no fur from half way up her tail all the way down her hind legs...I had to bathe her often and she cried, then vaseline to coat the raw skin...she finally got over all that and was doing good, only to succomb to pneumonia...I took her into the emergency room at 11:30 to have the vet put her to rest...her breathing was gasps and she was cold (around 95-96)...but he gave her meds and sent her home...hot water bottles tucked in under her blankets, meds and rest, and within 2 days she was up and running and has not stopped since then!!...
Like the vet that night said, just like preemie babies, sometimes their lungs and organs take a bit longer to catch up...and I am finally beginning to think that hers have and that she will make it after all...

Yoda, on the other hand, was the one who worried me when I first brought them in because the others were up on their feet and his hind legs still dragged along behind him...his eyes were the last to open, and most of the time infected with *beep* icky stuff that took forever to get cleared up...

To get them from canned food to dry, first I kept adding a few pieces of kibble to the canned food, a bit more each time...then I put two dishes out with a bit of food in each...one has dry kibble and the other has the same but with a bit of water to soften it a bit...

Gremlin and Yoda will be going together the 21st to a new home with a mom and human sister...I know them, and know that my babies will be loved and spoiled rotten :) It is sad to see them go, but I am happy they have a good home to go to and I can keep in touch with them!! I was concerned at first because the mom said something about declawing, but I managed to convince her that clipping them is just as effective, and with proper training, there is no need to declaw...they are getting very good at "clippy claws" and sit in my lap while I snip the tips off of each claw...

My babies are going to their new home next weekend...this is my last week to spend time and play with them... :) :( Mixed emotions for sure...I have been caring for them since they were 9 days old, and now they are 14 weeks old!!

They go to the vet one last time with me on Tuesday for shots and a final checkup before leaving, and copies of their records for their new vet in thier new town. I know, I am late in getting shots, but with Gremlin's health problems, we were not ready to push anything. They got worked and "antibacteralized" and "deparasited "and on a good healthy diet and elimination schedule, and I just wanted to get them in good working order before starting shots.

Their new home will be wonderful! A mother and daughter I have known for about 8 years now. The daugher is the same age as my son (14) and crazy about cats!!! They have never been in a home where they could have any pets, so Gremlin and Yoda will be her first pets, and she is very excited!! Of course, they will be indoor only, and since I have gotten them used to clippy claws, they are good at having that done and do not damage furniture. Even when they play, claws stay inside and rarely come out. That reminds me, I need to send her the link for clipping claws so she will know how to do it...
At least since I know them, I will be able to keep up on how they are growing and getting along...
