Hello everyone,
I was at Pet Supplies Plus, picking up supplies for our two, and the Humane Society has a little room there. The lady had a beagle out of his cage, so I asked her if I could go in and pet him. She said yes, so I went in and sat down and little Rudy was in my lap right away. Poor Rudy had been found running stray, and is about 6 years old. He was such a little love, and gave me lots of kisses and sad hound dog looks. I was so tempted to bring him home! My hubby really doesn't want another dog right now, so I respected that. But I know he would have gotten along great with Mr. Blue. The lady from the Humane Society said he was really frightened around a lot of people, and said I must be really good with dogs I told her I am with frightened hounds. When I was ready to leave, she thanked me for spending time with Rudy, and said that the more time he spends with nice strangers, the better for him and his adoption chances. I sure hope she's right! I had a good time visiting with him, but Mr. Blue sniffed and covered my hand with kisses to remind me of who the #1 hound in my life is (not that I'm in any danger of forgetting that).
I came so close to adopting another dog today!

There was a Maine coon cat in the local shelter. They post their pictures on the web. I did everything I could think of to get hubby to let me have her. 1 1/2 years, very sweet. I nagged and nagged but no go. I became obsessed with this cat but still hubby wouldn't budge. Our house is full of mice and Nick would rather sleep with me all night then hunt anything. I tried to say that maybe this cat would be a mouser. Finally after 4 months, someone adopted her. I feel a lot better that she has a home but I couldn't get over how stubborn my husband was being. I had to stop checking their web site. It's hard when you connect with an animal, then have to walk away.

I can sympathize, but a couple of dogs are fun! There is a new Basset in our Rescue, and from his pic, I would take him in a heartbeat.....if we didn't already have 4 (even though only 2 are ours). He had lo-o-o-ng ears, really sad eyes, and when he fattens up a bit, will be so-o-o handsome. I can't look any more.........

I can identify with you all- has happened to me also. But, Amanda's Mom- let me tell you about our cat. We had a calico cat who was a total princess and just spoiled and protected as an indoor cat.
When I discovered mice in the cellar I decided we would get another cat- but this one would be our mouser and prowl the cellar and be an outdoor cat. When we brought this little black and white cutie home she just laid in your arms and wanted to be held anytime. Well...so we let her stay in the house the first day, and the second day ....etc,etc...and of course she became princess 2 - and neither cat ever caught a mouse in the house.
And actually I don't think they scared the mice away.

Thanks mompaws, I'm sure that would happen to me. I had a cat who was a great hunter, both indoor and outdoor. The problem was he would kill the song birds. My house was mouse free when Jake was around. But being an outdoor cat, he was hit by a car. I keep trying to convince hubby that it would be an indoor cat and kill mice, not song birds. I'm sure it will clean it's own litter too. My luck I would have another cat sleeping on my legs at night.

Amanda's Mom...I forgot another thing about that (was years ago). We did let the new cat down cellar and one day he brought up (proudly) a half alive mouse and let it go in the living room ...so that was the end of his visits to the cellar. We decided to let the mice have the condo in the cellar and us the other 2 floors.

Yes that's another thing. Nick likes to bring me his ball in the middle of the night and plop it down in bed. He also likes to put his toys in the dogs water bowl. That would be really gross if it were a dead mouse. I guess the mice can have the basement and the attic. So far they are staying out of our living area.one day he brought up (proudly) a half alive mouse and let it go in the living room
