Traveling with Kitties
Traveling with Kitties
My husband and I have two kitties 7 months old. We have talked about making them "traveling kitties" and taking them with us when we go. We are going on our first out of town trip soon and want to take them. There is one trip a year that we would not be able to take them with us. I am curious as to whether this would be confusing to them. Is it a good idea to have your kitties go with you sometimes but not others? Could they develop little katitudes and become destructive when they don't get to go? I just need some insight from anyone whose been here, done this?? Any advice and or opinions welcomed. Thanks

Re: Traveling with Kitties
How long are you traveling for? All cats are different, but most likely your kittens would prefer to stay at home. Change is very confusing to cats; they are not like dogs, who always want to be with "their people". Cats would be more likely to develop problems (with eating, toileting, etc.) if you were to change their environment, than if you were to leave them at home where they know where their food, litter box, safe hiding places, etc., are. This is also safest for them, as new places introduce new dangers, and they won't know their way around, etc.
I'd suggest that you leave your cats at home and have someone stay with them - someone they already know, hopefully - instead of taking them with you on trips. It might seem like fun for you, but... I don't think my kitties would think it was fun. Again, your kittens may have the travelling kind of personality, but even then, safety is something to consider.
