Jumbo trip #3

Post by TheSkeptic »

Went and picked up Jumbo today. He has done well from his surgery, but he has a few health problems. The most serious is Heartworms. Less serious is an abcess on the back of his neck. Nothing that can't be treated.

I was prepared for traffic and took a less used route to the vets this time. On the way back I recognized one of the streets as being the first street in the community of Carrolton -- Now a neighborhood in New Orleans. (After the city was founded, small separate communities sprang up on patches of high ground around the city, but separated by bayous or swamps. Eventually the city grew and annexed these small communities.)

Here is that old street today. As you can tell it is no longer a major thouroughfare.

A consequence of the joining of these separate communities is that the roads can take strange jogs, twists and widening and norrowing where roads of one community were joined to another. Magazine street is a fine example of that process. Here is a wider section where it enters the Bore Plantation site. (Audobon Park and Zoo.)

In that picture I am Heading up Magazine street. Up in New Orleans refers to directions up river or toward the river from Lake Ponchetrain. Down refers to the reverse directions. I am in Uptown here, which is also called the garden district and it is located up the river from the Origianal city, which is refered to as DOWN TOWN. ....

I thought a picture of some of the Audobon Oaks would be nice here.

During the drive Jumbo did some sightseeing also. I think he was more interested in stray dogs and horses than in the scenary.
