I bought Mr. Blue a new grooming tool, and he's...msg/pics
...now indeed extremely handsome! Someone in our neighborhood showed me this thing. It's a metal strap with teeth on one side, looped up with a handle on one end. This woman tried it on Mr. Blue, and he loved it and it took a lot of fur off him. So I went out and bought one today, and my hubby brushed him, leading to this amount of fur:
Lest you're worried that I left him bald, here's another:
Of course, he headed for his dirt hole the minute he was groomed! I really liked the new tool; it's taken off more fur and dead skin than any brush we've tried.
Hope these pics work; I got tired of Seemesmile so I just started a Picture Trails account.

After all that hard work and effort, and you didn't take a pic of the tool!? Heh, wonder if it's a curry comb (as in, used for horses, I find them extremely useful for dogs and getting the loose fur out)

I can't believe I forgot a photo of it! Here's a similar
one, though: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... pCatId=786
Ours is made by a company called "Four Paws," but they didn't have it on their website. This thing really got the fur out, and also a lot of dead skin. After we were done using it, I sprayed his coat down with some dry skin ointment that our vets gave us, called "HyLyt Bath Oil." So I figure he really does come in as the Handsomest Hound in Town this afternoon

It's usually called a "shedding blade"....
... and it does indeed work in the same way as a curry comb does for horses... might even be called a form of curry comb, as they're often found in tack rooms. An absolute MUST for "German shedder dogs" is why I know Congrats to Mr. Blue - he's looking great here at the end of summer. Win had a bath and nail trim at her vet's last week, and is still shedding great clumps of fur suitable for knitting vests, mittens or whatever... anybody interested?
BTW - I now have a teensy shedding blade just for cats... Q loves it but squirms around so in trying to play with it, he cancels out most of the actual currying...

Gee, Mary- he does look very good!..beautiful shiny coat. You have enough fur left over to make a kitty-cat.

Yep, thats what it is...a curry comb (ok, sans the old term).....like E's, I also have one for my kitties, they love it.

A pile of fur? You call THAT a pile of fur???? You obviously have never groomed a shedding Sheltie. You could make a quilt with the fur - one dog will easily fill up a large paper grocery sack or more! Which reminds me, Mickey is shedding buckets, and I need to comb him, but I know it will be a battle. With him, the 'Scarlet O'hara' approach works best (I'll worry about it tomorrow!).
Mr. Blue does look lovely. I'm glad he enjoys his new 'toy'.

OK, we need to form a company with a really good marketer...
We can advertise products made out of our dog and cat fur. I figure Kevin will have to do the marketing I'm really pleased that this new thing works so well, and that Mr. Blue enjoys it. When my hubby tried to stop brushing, Mr. Blue leaned on him and gave him a pitiful stare until he started up again. I figure it might help his skin, too, getting rid of all the old dry dead stuff.

Seems to me there was a book out several years ago written by a woman who recycled everything. Seems like she stuffed pillows with dryer lint and wove the dog fur into yarn - or something like that. I don't really see how dog fur is that much different from sheep or goat wool. I don't own a spinning wheel, so making yarn might not be that easy . I also don't know how to quilt, so our business might be off to a rocky start!

Hey, we'll just supply the raw materials
we can let someone else actually make the stuff! I don't have a clue how to knit, but I'm sure a sweater made of shed Mr. Blue fur would be VERY attractive
