Hi, all!

Post by slvrwhispr »

It's been a while since I checked in here. A lot has changed! I bought a condo, so I'm now a homeowner. It's crazy, the bank will let just about anyone buy a building!

Izzy likes all the space she has, and all the windows.

And... now that I have a place of my own... it's finally doggy time! Y'all, meet Shelby!

She's a 3YO (estimated) corgi/terrier mix, weighs about 50 pounds, and is just the best dog in the world.

Even Izzy doesn't mind her! They don't cuddle, but they will nap near one another. And they both sit pretty for treat time.

Wow, slvrwhispr, a lot sure HAS changed, lol.

Congrats on the house and the accompanying pupper, she sure is cute! :)

How is Izzy doing? Is Shelby good around her?

Shelby barely even notices the cat exists. Every once in a while she'll try to sniff her booty and the cat just trots off. Sometimes Izzy will lay near where Shelby is napping (like in the picture above) and nap there. Overall, I'm shocked at how well she's handling it. I was expecting to have to soothe a stressed cat for weeks, but she's shown no signs of stress. No inappropriate potty, no pulling at her fur, eating fine, playing fine. She even still sleeps in bed with me... cat on one side, dog on the other!

Izzy's barely a cuddler with me... she's more of a "sit near you but not on you" cat. Case in point, she's on the arm of the couch next to me right now. I'd LOVE for her to be Shelby's cuddlebuddy, but I don't think it'll ever happen. I'm just glad that she doesn't HATE Shelby. One of the conditions of Shelby's adoption was that it was a trial pending feline approval. She was a perfect lady when meeting Izzy, and aside from a fluffy tail and initial warning hiss, there have been no incidents between them!

Now, that said, I'm grateful she knows the cat is a roommate and not food because Shelby DOES have a heck of a prey drive. She saw a rabbit in the yard and dang near ripped my arm off running after it (glad I have her in a harness or she'd have broken her dang neck), and she definitely wants to catch squirrels. But the cat does not trigger this, even when Izzy gets the zoomies, or is rolling around playing with her own toys. Shelby just leaves her alone. She's such a blessing.

Yeah, that's why I asked, if she has terrier in her, please train her that Izzy is off limits - when you're gone is what I would worry about.
