we keep saying...NO MORE!!! ~ Saving for Surgery for Scooter

Post by Tambrey »

but then one is born that needs human intervention...

it is chowing down on some canned food mixed with water right now...in a shoebox on my desk...

We picked up antibiotics for snotty eyes kittens earlier in the week...hubby reached in to get one to give meds to...and it is one we had not seen...no wonder...it cannot crawl out to play...its hind legs are corkscrewed behind it...

its front legs are strong, it is eating with a voracious appetite...very vocal...but needs therapy and maybe surgery...I will take it in to the hospital in the city this week and see what they say...

pictures will follow in a while...

Good luck Tambrey..I know how hard it is. Is this the same issue that Corkey had? I see you contacted the same place.

Pictures as promised...it's eyes look watery in the pictures, and it is on antibiotics, as are the other kittens...

And since I have had it inside and fed it and held it for a while, it was asleep in the crook of my arm, laying on its side...and enjoying a belly rub :)
It has also enjoyed some slobbery kisses from Ghost

Now I have a t-shirt rolled in the box, and then spread out some, so it can lay on and against the roll of fabric and not fall over while it sleeps, and can also take pressure off of those hind legs to get a good sleep...which it is doing here on my desk as I am typing

I am getting frustrated because if the Fargo ND rescue cannot take this kitten, I need to know what to do with it, short of surgery, which I cannot afford...but as far as therapy and quality of life goes, if we end up keeping it...but all I am finding about is Corky...and that does not help THIS kitten...sighs....I am off to feed it one more time...it has yet to poop but I can also feel its spine and ribs and hip bones, so I do not think it has gotten much from Mom in the last couple of days...the other kittens had moved to a new location, this one was stuck in the old place..

So far this evening it has eaten 3 teaspoons of canned food watered down....gotta go get some KMR and proper kitten food tomorrow, but this was something for it for tonight...

It has made itself right at home on a rolled up t-shirt in a shoe box...and I am falling in love.....oh nooooooo!!!!!

Please get this little baby to a reputable vet right away - like TOMORROW -not only for his/her development but for nutrition (think ricketts, etc)

And, do not settle for any vet saying "we can't do anything" or encouraging you to euthanize. Call your local shelters in a 100 mile radius, newspapers, radios, articles ALWAYS generate donations for vet surgery/care etc. Post on Care2 etc, Facebook, anywhere you can find a "special needs" site to post on. And even though they won't admit it, most vets involved love the attention they get from the media and community. Also contact nearby vet universities (or ask the vets to do so)

This little one deserves all the help he/she can get, so don't get discouraged, you'll find help if you look for it.

Btw, please don't allow the dogs to smooch on kitten, with URI's, the last thing they need is additional bacteria. Please use a moist cotton ball to gently wipe at kitten's eyes, they look very weepy.

Don't wait on this Tambrey, please seek veterinary attention ASAP.

Thanks Traci....I have heard back from the one in North Dakota, but nothing specific yet...they probably need to show the pics to he vet

I got some C/D kitten food and come KMR for it this morning...it has had a good bowel movement so I know it can do that on its own...I was getting concerned because by bedtime lastnight it had not gone, and I used a warm cotton but it still did not go...this morning it still had not gone...but on our way to the vet to get he KMR and kitten food, it pooped...so the groomer at the vet gave it a quick bath in her sink, and it pooped even more...then she cleaned out the carrier (storage tote) and turned the t-shirt I had in there inside out and re-rolled it for now...

that is a concern, when it goes, that it will get urine burns and dried feces on its legs and belly, so I will be diligent about cleaning it as long as I have it...

I also have put it on my facebook page, and a friend who does animal rescue in Pennsylvania told me of a site to post on...so I plan on going there next to post the kitten.

I know this is beyond any vets in this area...but I do not want it to be an experiment either, you know...

It is a sweetheart....it purrrs now when I pick it up and it loves to snuggle into the crook of my elbow...and it rolls over for belly rubs...

the rest of the litter is fine - 3 other siblings...

not having much luck.....no vet in the direct city will take it...and of course the "local" vet took one look and snorted and said "I think it is time to get a new kitten." ggrrrrrrrr....I went there because I needed KMR and a can of kitten food...

The IVMA said that no vet in their organization would take it...I have not heard back yet from Cat's Cradle in Fargo

It eats well....LOVES to be held and rubbed.....eats well still and has gone bathroom again....gonna be getting lots of baths...

I'd call the Cats Cradle people again or call Dr. Dan Burchill/Casselton Veterinary Service direct. Or call the ABC affiliate that did the story and tell them you have another case that needs exposure and help.
