Love it! Yes, doing what comes naturally - bugling! (We once had a wonderful Beagle who could bugle like nobody's business - I know just how it sounds!) Is Buffy praising the snow or complaining about it?

It was a very rare snow in GA, but did stick around for 2 days or so. The pic was taken last month, and I forgot about it until my son mentioned it.

I think she was complaining...she didn't stay outside too long. She was raised in KY...I was raised in MA...and we both agree that snow is pretty...once every ten years or so!

Bassets (like Buffy) and beagles are closely related hound types, aren't they? And the 2 hound types most famous for "bugling?" I used to know about stuff like this but have forgotten. Maybe the term 'bugling' came from the famous story by McKinlay Kantor? Which was about a basset... right?

I don't think they're that closely related. The Basset's descendant is the Bloodhound, while the Beagle's descendant is most likely a cross between the Harrier and another english hound. I think way back then, there were several hound-types. Also, the bugling between them is slightly different, the Beagle kind of has a short howl.

Either way, both dogs are wonderful, just slightly different personalities and traits, I love them all!
