Just a few Greek cats

Post by Tina B and crew »

I've seen more dogs than cats, and unfortunately the cats I've seen in Athens have been pretty sad looking. I cringe everything I see one run across the street or duck under a car. I assume many of them are strays simply because they look undernourished. We went to one of the islands this weekend and the cats I saw there looked as if they fared much better than Athenian cats. Here are just a few that I got.

Very sweet cats, begging at the cafe we had lunch at. It's tearing my heart out! These were on the island of Kea in the town of Ioulida.

Not sure what was wrong with this one's eye...you might have an idea Traci. It was so close to the first cat I posted they were practically attached!

I hope I will get more eventually.....stay tuned!

They're so beautiful! I assume the people treat them well when they are begging for food?

The kitten (or maybe petite adult?) appears to have either gluacoma, a cataract, or maybe infection induced injury or traumatic injury, no way to know without a vet, and I guess you can't run around a foreign country taking kitties to the vet! (I probably would  )

I've not seen anyone be mean to the cats yet. I think the people are just accustomed to them. In the US we'd definitely be shooing them away!

To tell you the truth, I'm not even sure there is a vet on the island of Kea!!
