I would only adopt through someone you can thoroughly screen, and I mean thoroughly, like a home visit, vet references, followup.

This person uses the same vet I used and we have several mutual friends. I'm fully confident in adopting him out to her.

I technically don't "know" her - we've never met face to face, but we have some mutual friends who can vouch for her. That's good enough for me. I do have someone else who is SUPPOSED to contact me today. This couple lost (as in died) their cat 6 months ago and are wanting another cat in their life. I'm inclined to just tell them I already have someone committed but I'm going to see if they contact me anyway. If they could take him before January that would be a plus for me. I'm just going to feel it out and see what I think.

I would just caution about the first person - even though you may share mutual aquaintances, doesn't mean you would necessarily approve of her/her home. I would still ask your vet if this seems like a good match, based on his knowledge of her, her ability and committment to her pets, etc.

For that reason, I too would keep the option open for the second person, but again, please screen and get references.

I just spoke at length with the second person and am pretty sure I'm going to deliver him to her this weekend. He will be indoor only and she said getting him vetted asap would be no problem. Given the choice between holding him until January and getting him into a home this weekend, I'll take this weekend. Bottom line = he is not going to a shelter and he is not outside.

"Finnegan" is officially at home and I am positive he is where he is suppose to be! The couple who adopted were all ready for him and thoroughly excited to have him in their home. He came out of the carrier and made himself right at home. I am beyond thrilled!

Tina, I can't tell you how happy I am to hear Finnegan is in a wonderful home, prayers must really work!

Will you be able to get an update on him? It would be so nice to know he is settling in, his new mommy/daddy are smitten, and that he is happy. Please, let us know if/when you can find out.

He's such a beautiful boy and sounds like a lover, I hope they'll take perfect care of him, just as you did!
