Hi Cleo,

How is the litter situation going? I can relate to trying to find the best litter. I never tried the crystals so can't give you feedback on that one.

Hope all is well with you and yours.

The petsmart brand is pretty good. That's what I've been using because it's the cheapest "not cheap" scooping litter you can get without a membership to a warehouse store. It's almost always on sale for around $11 for 40 pounds. Definitely no strong perfume smells, even with the "fresh scent" kind. It does have some dust, but I've seen worse. It's no worse than the tidy cats scoop.

I recently got a gift card to petco from an aunt, so I got their brand of litter. Seems comparable to the petsmart brand in terms of odor and efficiency, but it is definitely less dusty. The problem is that it is also more expensive. $12 for 30 pounds. I don't have anything against petco in terms of the products they carry and their store brand quality, but I have noticed that for the things that I buy on a regular basis and have priced, petco is consistently more expensive than petsmart...

Thanks kehorner. I may give the Petsmart brand a try next go around.

LisaLisa, it's going well. Thankfully no one decided NOT to use the boxes because of the litter change. It clumps pretty well and leaves the rest of the litter clean enough to last a day or two longer than usual when I was using Tidy Cats. The dust is alot but I try and scoop slowly. I think no matter what, with a clay litter there is going to be dust.

Cleo, we have used the PetSmart Exquisicat brand crystal litter for several years now. I personally have found it is the best as far as controlling odor and having minimal dust (yes, there is some dust but nothing like clay litter). It doesn't last us quite as long as it says it should (one container, one cat, one month) but almost...I can get a little over 3 weeks out of one container. I scoop poop and mixed the crystals around to distribute the soaked ones. I even found at one time that mixing the crystal in with the clay helped control odor, but we eventually went to all crystal.

Thanks Tina. Maybe I'll try a mixture of both.

I have to say that the smell of the Ever Clean hasn't gotten to me yet. When I talk about odor, I don't mean from what comes out of the cats. It's that perfumey kind of smell when it's fresh and more perfumey when it's used. Does that make sense? Between my normal allergies and a neurological upset I had over the last few months, I've become particularly sensitive to sweet stinky smells. There I go again not making sense but then again, that's my life. :?
