I got my first computer in April '98 and started on Acme in maybe May '98? I think I'd been searching "dogs" in Alta Vista. Hung out mostly on DH and the various incarnations of the NDR boards. I stopped posting maybe a year before it closed, though I still occasionally lurked.

Believe it or not, Acme literally did change my life. I've learned a lot for my dogs, learned how much I don't know, learned how to try help others who are also learning (like with my website), got support for things both huge and small. Most of all, the friends I made there were (and still are) very cool.

I've now erased my post here, don't want to upset anyone. I also feel I got burned there, but I'm trying to remember the good stuff I got from it.

Admin Note:

With respect to Canine Centric and Help For Cats, could we please keep the "fixation" on acmepet to a bare minimum. Some of our members do have scars and don't need to be reminded, I am not mentioning names.

The reason most of you are here is because HFC and CC were created for YOU. I understand many of you regarded acmepet as your gateway to learning, but an equal number of you got burned in the process. For some of you, that's not easily forgotten.

Acmepet is gone. CC and HFC ARE here.

Traci and Jason - I'm very glad you had this board for all of us "refugees" to come to. I was also one who learned a lot from AcmePet and that's why I stayed around even when it started to go down. I also made some very good friends, one of whom I've actually met and got to "show off" my lab to. I've felt the joy and the pain of many people, and in spite of the negativity and insanity of a few, there were many good things about that board all of which have, thank goodness, carried over to this one. You are to be commended for having such a nice place to visit. Like ShelbysMom, I called the Acme board the "dog board" - A special term I now use for this one. My husband laughs at me when he sees me typing something to post, but he knew a long time ago that my dogs were very important to me. ("Love me, love my dogs").

Please be patient with us when we bring up the former board (or the "pig" board for that matter). It's just part of our coping process as we try to exorcise the demons.

I found Acme...........

in May 1997 - almost a year after my girl, Tara was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. I was so happy to find people who loved their animals as much as I do. And I appreciated the support I received there.

I was on it for a few years. found it while doing a search for dogs and phenobarbitol and came across a post where davet and jdf had answered soneones question on it. I posted my question, I was pretty scared that day with Unstable Mabel, and within a half hour, jdf had not only answered my question but gave me a ton of links and his e mail address. Davet also chipped on on that answer a bit later that same day. I was hooked from that point on. Spent a lot of time in the health room although I don't really know squat about dog health.. but I'd never admit that to anyone of course... Of course I got a few scars there too.. more of those twords the end of Acme... but then hey.. I also gave a few too so it worked out.. lol! And since then I have covered mine up with tattoos.. go figure.
I also spent a lot of time in the NDR board at Acme giving advice.. being a spy... being a psychic...being.. well all that I can be really.
While for the most part, I did have a good time at Acme.. I never had my own room. Not that I didn't ask for one mind you cause I did!! Ok so thats crap I didn't. So sue me.
At any rate, this place, even if I did not have my own room, ROCKS! It is SO much better than Acme.. the people here are ultra cool as is the amin people.
