yes E's...that is Duchess of Ames....formerly knows as "Lightbulb" because she is all tortuiseshell except for a white tip of a tail...so that is just what we called her....
But the name Duchess is very fitting.....

She is a quiet regal kitten...she will play, but she is a very comfy lap kitty and when her new mom first held her yesterday....Duchess snuggled right onto her very ample bossom and began to just purrrrr away....did not try to jump out of her arms or even squirm away...just relaxed right against her as if she belonged there.....

I think she will be a very happy and very SPOILED kitty!!

I wished I could have gotten pictured of Koda/Coda today as well...especially playing on the floor with the young man....and to watch him with her was wonderful....he just held her right comfortable and fed her the bottle then wiped her little bottom....cooing and talking to her....then snuggling her against him....
But...I did not want to impose on them too much by dragging out my camera...even though I really wanted to because I NEVER go ANYWHERE without my camera!!!!

And one eye is peeking open slightly today on that itty bitty kitty....

Tell Koda's foster parent that a direct change in diet (in this case, nursing from mom or being outdoors eating who-knows-what) can cause abrupt constipation in kittens, especially with the introduction of KMR. To help remedy this, tell them to do the following:

Get a 3-cc needle-less syringe. Place a small dab (a 1-inch strip, NO MORE than that) of Laxatone or Petromalt for Cats into the syringe, then add warm (NOT hot) water to the syringe so there is about 1 and 1/2 cc's of warm water and Laxatone mixture, give orally, once or twice a day until the kitten produces a stool (NO MORE than twice a day, and NO MORE than for three days). The warm water helps move the Laxatone through the intestine. If a stool is not produced within a couple days, time for help from the vet (for a kitten-safe enema).

Hopefully this won't even be necessary, but when in doubt, make sure they know to get kitten to a vet.

Thanks Traci....she said when she took it...her...home from Petco that she would be getting her into the vet within a day or two just for a checkup....she is sooo tiny...a few days old...eyes not even opened yet....well...one is STARTING to open slightly as of yesterday so what...maybe 10 days right now?

When I visited yesterday she introduced me to Flika, her other indoor only kitty...and Copper the hyper lab puppy...showed me around her veggie garden, sent me home with some zucchini...she is a really homey and seemingly caring woman...very soft spoken...and as I said, I just felt trusting of her to let this baby go home with her...and then to find out that she lives just a couple blocks away was awesome!!
Her fiance and his brother are also very well mannered and articulate in their speaking and manners...very gentle and friendly people...I have not met such nice people in a long time...it was nice!!

I would LOVE to find homes for ALL of the semi-feral cats at my Mom's place...and so would she...she is getting too old to take care of them....and with winter coming on, I am not guaranteed to get up there every day to make sure they have food and water...
and with her living right on the highway...well....it is not a good thing :( Even for the most part, they tend to stay near the house and machine shed

I called on my way home from work...

Koda has TWO good poops today and is not as fussy or bloated....she is very active....eyes starting to peek open more so she is wanting to explore, and not liking being put into her safety box with towel and warmer...she wants to be OUT....

She has also started to try to hold the bottle and I was told she was quite aggressive with it today!

I did tell her about the CatLax and warm water in a syringe in case she gets constipated again...

This is such a heart-warming thread. I'm just thrilled that this little kitty found a good home!

I am just going to add to this post since they are all related.....

My brother sent me a post lastnight from a buy_sell_trade site...I normally do NOT do these....but I kept thinking and at about 10:30 or so lastngiht sent a message to the lady....

We are going to talk more Saturday and meet Sunday....she is looking for kittens....PLURAL....for her daughters....I asked her how many as I have the 3 left here...about 5-6 months old that I want to find homes for before winter really sets in...I asked about indoor only....spay/neuter....declaw thoughts....etc.....and I warned her I was extremely PICKY as to the homes even my ferals go to!!

She wrote back this evening that she does not believe in declawing...they would be indoor only...she IS interested in all THREE of them so I do not need to break them up!!....she uses a water bottle for training...she would send me pictures and updates as often as I wanted...

I searched on Facebook and even though her profile is limited, she does have a picture of two very adorable girls on her page....maybe ages 8 and 3 or 4...

The black sister and brother are no trouble to pick up and hold....the calico is another issue still!! But usually if I put food down and catch her unawares I can pick her up and as soon as I do she lays right down into my arms and purrrs while I rub her belly.....

Sooooo....maybe by Sunday I won't have to worry about these babies for winter!!!! We'll see.....

Tambrey, I hate to burst your bubble, but if the calico is the third kitten you were referring to in the CH post in Feline Health, please review my post their, and take it under heavy consideration. If the two black kittens are from the same litter, AND/OR from the same queen, do not adopt them out until you've had them thoroughly examined by a vet, and if CCA is suspect, your vet needs to consult a specialist.

The last thing you want is to adopt a kitten out who might have one or the other condition, the owner doesn't recognize it, the vet is an idiot at diagnosing and euthanasia is performed because no one consulted about the condition.

Thanks Traci....the kittens are related sort of....the two black ones are aunt and uncle to the calico...their mom is Hissy's Mom....

I did mention to her about the diagnosis of the other two...so she is aware, and I wold give her more information...on BOTH of the diseases, so she can take it to her vet in the city and to know what to watch for should anything develop with Stripe....

The place we like to go in the city and it is where we took Callie....is the Siouxland Animal Hospital...they are awesome...caring and fully equipped for about anything there...and the vets have a vast array of knowledge with different specialties.....other than driving to Ames...they are the best in the area...and that is where most of the vets refer patients to if they cannot do anything....

And oh I would sure hope that a vet would not suggest putting a kitten down for either of these conditions

That's why I strongly advised their vets consult with specialists, because general practitioners don't always look for it, or because they assume it's CH when it in fact might be CCA. The latter is much more rare (in cats), so an inexperienced vet and an ill-informed owner could spell disaster.
