Her little pink nose that's all scratched up because she doesn't understand when to stop picking on Izzy? It's a morning routine to gently clean her nose with a fresh gauze pad and make sure nothing's looking bad enough to warrant a vet visit. I keep thinking she'll learn but it's been six months!

Yeah. Emmy just really doesn't know when to knock it off. I can calm her down or re-focus her energy during the day, of course, but when I wake up in the morning, she's obviously gone at it again. I keep Izzy's nails trimmed but they're still sharp. Emmy just REALLY wants to play harder than Izzy will tolerate, and when Izzy swats at her to get her to back off, she goes in for more. It's just play on Em's part; she never bites or anything. I've spent a small fortune on toys for her to pounce instead, but she apparently ignores them at night.

It's just this one issue. They share the food and water just fine, they snuggle together, they play together fine when I'm controlling playtime. Whenever I catch them going at it too hard, they both get squirted, separated, and given individual toys (though Izzy usually just wants to sit in a quiet corner, not play). But you'd really think that, if nothing else, getting swatted in the nose would get through to Emmy that Izzy doesn't like that. Sigh. I think once she's past the energetic kitten stage, these incidents will quiet down. I just don't know how else to teach her to give Izzy her space when she wants it.

Darling pic of the Em. I don't know what to tell you about the rough play that you haven't already said. I do notice a somewhat different pattern of play/fighting with a pair of neutered males... how much is too much? So far, their occasional set-tos haven't injured either of them, but like you, I worry. Congrats on getting the camera fixed... wish I could take time to learn how to work mine, but have become so technology shy recently...

A new Emmy pic. Emmy is easier to photograph because she sleeps through anything. Izzy hears me coming from three rooms away... haha. I've gotta be super stealthy to catch her being cute.

Anyway, things have been quieter around here lately with my two ladies. I had been using a little water pistol to get Emmy off my lampshades and off of Izzy when she was playing too rough but it didn't seem to faze her. So when I was at the store the other day, I saw in the travel/trial section, they had these cute little squirt bottles for a dollar. Grabbed one, been using that. Emmy does NOT like that. Now she hops up on the end table, takes a look at the lampshade, looks at the squirt bottle, and decides whether or not it's worth it. Sometimes the answer is still yes... But for the most part, that is MUCH more effective. And since I'm not yelling at Emmy all the time, Izzy doesn't hide in the cat room all the time anymore. So I've had both my cuddlebugs all on me lately, which makes me happy. In fact, they were both sharing the same window sill last night, but it was too dark to get a good picture. But it was cute!

Speaking of comfy and cozy and sleeping...

I'm laying on my back on the couch with my feet up and the laptop on my legs. I have Izzy laying across my belly, and Emmy snuggled up on my shoulder with her head nuzzled in my ear. I wish there was someone here to take a picture... I'm completely certain we're adorable.
