Outdoor cat house

Post by Cleo »

I came across this item on Etsy. Not entirely sure how well it would work as far as keeping ferals warm in the brutal cold. Description says the cat's body heat is enough against the insulation in the cooler.

Looks simple enough to make taking a cooler, cutting openings and attaching cat flap doors. Then again, I haven't tried it so don't know how easy it would be.

A simple idea and it looks like the person sold a few too. Just a thought for those with outside kitties (Tambrey).

Very nice! I personally would try to line the entire inside walls and ceiling with fleece, or styrofoam sheets, plus the blankie on the floor.

I'm guessing one could make this on their own for around the same price, the cooler and cat doors would be the highest expense - one would also need a saw or cutter to cut the holes for the doors.

I would probably attempt to make it myself before buying it. And agree, some cozy fleece and blankies inside would be nice.

I haven't priced coolers lately, so I really don't know :)

They are thick however, so don't know what kind of cutting tool beyond a bore/drill then a jigsaw to cut the holes. Would have to measure the cooler, then measure for size of doors (small size I presume) and see what size doors on the net are available.

Guess you could use the lady's pics as a sort of template to see how much you'd have to cut and which door sizes wouldn't take up much of the cooler's sides for the holes. Measure for the door's frame thickness in regards to the cooler's thickness.
