Busy Busy Busy...
Sunday we celebrated my mother's 98th birthday. We took her and my sister to Middendorph's in Manchac for Seafood lunch. We got there early and only had a 20 minute wait to get in. She and my sister got a large seafood platter to share. They took about half of it home in a doggy bag. After lunch we went to my neices for a surprise party for my mother. We got home late and by the time we finished with the dogs and other stuff we had to do, I had no time for any moon pictures.
Monday the yard had finally dried enough for me to mow. The grass was sooooo high, I had to cut it four times. FIrst at the highest mower setting, then at progressively lower levels until the normal level was reached. Still didn't do that good a job as the ground was still so soft that the wheels and my feet pressed the grass into the mud so I ended up with some areas where I will have ridges and islands of grass popping up later on.

Although it threatened to rain all day, the heavy rain missed us and we only got a few drizzles. I was even able to weed wack the yard without getting shocked by the weed wacker. I took a break after mowing and before weed wacking and took this picture of the tree.

Relaxed the rest of the day. We watched the movie CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR on DVD. It followed the book pretty well. I found it an acceptable movie, even if some of the speculation about life back then was a little too outre for me. The pups spent most of the evening playing in the yard, They played right up to bedtime as this pick of Pea Pod shows.

IT took the dogs a while this morning to realize that the yard is not "mushy any more. They congregated for a while on the patio before venturing out onto the grass. All except the puppers that is. I think they liked the mushy yard.

Poor Freckles must have had a bad night last night. She was still yawning at this late hour in the morning.

The heat quickly built up and it wasn't long before they began queing at the door to be let in. For a change, Ivory was first in line.

Like the Peapod pic with the back feet flying!
Re: Pics.... More Pics...
Looks like they're all glad the yard dried out. How'd you guys fare with the hurricane? More rain? We even got some of the feeder bands over here - on the opposite side of the gulf!

We got real lucky. The heavy bands passed North and South of us... All we got was some nice cooling sprinkles. ....

That's good. The last thing you needed was more rain! Now -if we can just make it through October (or is it November?)?

By the time we reach 98 they will have rejuvenation medicines that will make us look and act like we are 25 again. ...
(Been reading too much science fiction again!)
And for K9Karen, Hurricane season officially ends November 30, but with global warming it will be starting sooner and ending later.

Plan to come on down and we'll take you to Pass Manchac [sp?] and the great Middendorf's... best catfish in all of Dixie, and that's goin' some. My son grew up in the Midwest and he likes to take his visiting friends/relatives there - the restaurant is always busy, and packed on holidays... so son and I have worked out an arrangement: we go across Lake Mauripah (eesh - I can't spell that either tonight... help, Skeptic!) 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after said holidays. The quaint town of Pontchatula is right up the road; it has scads of neat antique/junk/collectibles shops - part of my treat is to get to go to some of these before or after the catfish platter.I hope I am still able to get out to lunch and share a seafood platter when I turn 98.

Well here goes.
Minor note the town is simply Manchac -- Pass Manchac is the waterway that it is built on that connects Lakes Ponchartrain and Maurepas.
Some interesting historical (or Hysterical) trivia.
The King of France origianally wanted the city of New Orleans built on Pass Manchac, but by the time the news reached Bienville and Iberville they had already built New Orleans on the river.
Lake Maurepas was named after an early governer of Louisiana. It was the name the indians gave him and very roughly translated means "Liar, Liar Pants on Fire!" (a closer translation would be "Liar," but that doesn't give the feeling of the comment as well.)
