It's Just A Pet

Post by Tambrey »

I got this in an e-mail from a friend today...BTW....this friend in Texas does rescue work...she currently has 13 dogs...about as many cats...a variety of birds...etc....ALL either inside their trailer home on their land...or in kennels that run off of the back door of the home...

It's Just A Pet
Author: unknown

From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a pet"
Or, "that's a lot of money for just a pet."

They don't understand the distance traveled,
The time spent, or the costs involved for "just a pet."

Some of my proudest moments
Have come about with "just a pet."

Many hours have passed and my only company was
"just a pet," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have
Been brought about by "just a pet,"
And in those days of darkness,
The gentle touch of "just a pet"
Gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a pet,"
Then you will probably understand phases like
"just a friend," & "just a sunrise" or "just a promise."

"Just a pet" brings into my life the very essence of friendship,
Trust, and pure unbridled joy.

"Just a pet" brings out the compassion and patience
That make me a better person.

Because of "just a pet" I will rise early,
Take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me,
it's not "just a pet"
But an embodiment of all
The hopes and dreams of the future,
The fond memories of the past,
And the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a pet" brings out what's good in me
And diverts my thoughts away
From myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that some day they can understand
That it's not "just a pet"
But the thing that gives me humanity
And keeps me from being "just a man."

So the next time you hear the phrase
"just a pet," just smile,
Because they "just don't understand."

I really get miffed when people say that to me. I want to tell them, if they have a child, it's just a child...or that they are just a person...grrrr.

I was in the pharmacy once picking up medicine for Gizmo when the pharmacist told me the cost would be over $100. I was shocked (it was for liquid pepcid) and said something about already having spent nearly $3000 on medical bills for him so he told me that I could by OTC tablet and crush it with water and it would serve the same purpose. The lady standing behind me commented "Hell, I'd have the cat put down before spending that much, it'd have been a lot cheaper!" I was livid! I told asked her if she would put down a loved one because of medical costs and she kind of slinked away. Some people just don't understand, period. I'd do anything within my capabilities for my cats.
