Absolutely am horrified that this could happen to an animal but am thrilled the poor thing is alive. I do have to question returning this animal to those who possibly willingly let it out in temps that would cause this to happen. Breaks my heart to see animals with no shelter in the weather conditions we are seeing across the nation right now

I agree with you Tina.

Well, the story doesn't "interview" the owners, so we have no way of knowing if the kitty escaped somehow, so should at least keep that in mind. Paying the vet bill should give some indication of how responsible they might be, chances are, that bill is at least $1000.
Having said that, of course, some people don't deserve to have pets who allow them outdoors in freezing weather.

Since I posted that I heard that the cat, who is apparently named Annie, had escaped several weeks ago when the owners moved to a new location. The animal control officer did say that cat was rather thin. I guess maybe I'm a bit harsh, but I know my life would stop in its tracks if my cat escaped and I also know that anytime I have moved I take extra precautions to keep make sure they can't but things still happen. It would be interesting to find out if they do pay the vet bill...but we may never know.
I guess another telling point would be if the cat was an indoor/outdoor cat before this or an indoor only cat who escaped.
At any rate, I do hope they will take those extra precautions now that they are reunited. It truly is a miracle cat and should be treasured as such!
