My sister got a female cat, Bo, about 7 years ago. Despite being my sisters cat, Bo slept in my room every night, I took care of her, and fed her everyday.
But 3 years ago I went off to college. I was only able to visit home once a month or so. As time passed, Bo began to be more and more distant to me. Now I graduated and am home permanently (until I find a job, at least). But Bo hisses at me if I get within 10 feet of her. If I try to pet her, she bites me.
I'm pretty sure that she felt abandoned when I left. I can understand why she is upset, but I am hoping to change her.
Are there any strategies to get a cat to like someone? Do any of you have any ideas or techniques that have worked?
My sister's cat hates me :(
Re: My sister's cat hates me :(
How long have you been home?
Are you forcing her to be around you or in your room? Don't force her, you have to earn her trust again.
Did you bring things home with all sorts of different scents on them? If so, slowly, each day, allow her to come into your room and investigate your things. It's all new to her so she has to investigate them on her own terms.
Do the same things you did before you left for school, feed her, tend her litterbox, schedule playtime sessions with her. Again, you have to earn her trust again.
