Apparently cat hoarding is not unique to America
I've come to learn through another student that there is a woman in this neighborhood who has or takes care of 80+ cats. I've seen her apartment/home. She has a sign on the gate that says "I will not reign, to serve I disdain, the cat I remain" The cats I've seen there look healthy but apparently she cornered this student one day and was pleading with her about something. She thinks the woman wanted her to help feed them or something. It breaks my heart each day to see the animals on the street. Apparently the city does catch dogs, neuter/spay and release them with a collar and tags to identify them as friendly strays. But as far as I can tell they do nothing for cats. I think I have found a future mission along with my vet.

Well maybe it can be some comfort to you in knowing there is a woman and probably more who care, just as we do here...you just don't see them, but they are out there. All of the pics you've posted on your blog indicate the cats do look good, hopefully no worse for wear, much like our strays and ferals here, but I can definately understand how sad this is for you to see.
Give them a gentle pet, a special touch, a warm hug and smooth voice (and maybe a treat!), I hope that comforts you to know you can give them a moment of love and kindness.
