My cats are currently living in my old house with my former roommate and her husband, because where I'm living now I can't have them. So I visit them, and I'll take them with me when I move next year.
They called me up and were very concerned that the cats really hadn't been eating much the past two days. They would eat a little, but were leaving a lot still in the bowls, which isn't like them at all. I got her message late at night, so I had to wait until the next morning to call her back.
Fortunately, they had solved the mystery. We keep the food bag in a big rubbermaid container. I had bought a new bag of food since the other bag was getting low, and leaned that bag up against the wall next to the container. One of the little stinkers decided to break into the new bag early! So, with such a ready supply of brand new, freshly opened bag food on which to free-feed, they weren't quite so interested in the bottom of the bag food that was fed morning and night.
Why aren't they eating?
Re: Why aren't they eating?
Just to be certain, make sure the roommates watch them carefully to ensure they begin eating their regular amounts again. New bags of food are always enticing to cats, it's not just the freshness of a new bag, it's the excitement of something "new". So make sure the roommate doesn't mistake the new bag opening for only excitement. The cats need to eat sufficiently.
Are they stressing? How long have they been with the roommate, without you there?

Re: Why aren't they eating?
It's been about a month. I moved out at the beginning of August. She says they are eating fine now, once she removed their alternate source of food. They aren't too stressed, I don't think. They were stressed when my roommate was on her honeymoon and I was going over there once a day to check on them, I think they would have liked to have somebody there all the time. But they are acting "normal" now.
