200-Pound English Mastiff to be Honored for Donating Blood 20 Times
HOWELL, Mich. - A Michigan dog who's donated blood 20 times is being honored for his genorosity by a chapter of the American Red Cross.
The English mastiff, named Lurch, will receive the chapter's "Pet's Best Friend" award on Thursday. The two-year-old's owner says Lurch donates blood for other canines about once every four weeks. The blood has helped dozens of dogs, including one who got into some rat poison.
Lurch's owner says "you really don't end up knowing which dogs he helps," but a picture of him is attached to each bag of his blood so the person that gets it will know who it came from.
Lurch keeps busy at home when he's not donating blood. The 200-pound pooch shares space with an American mastiff, four pugs, seven cats and the occasional litter of kittens.
