I got Bear this weekend (yay!). Things are going pretty good. He's an absolute gentleman in public. We've got to work on the chasing squirrels thing a bit, but other than that he is wonderful. He helps me so much.
The one problem that I have is that he's getting my back seat all wet. With all the snow and slush, his paws get all wet, then he jumps in. I've got a fleece blanket over it, but the water just goes through that (at least the blanket is keeping things clean, if not dry). I tried putting some plastic garbage bags under the fleece, but the fleece (and Bear) slide around on those.
Any ideas on something that I can use under the fleece or instead of the fleece to keep the back seat dry? The cheaper, the better...
And I drive a car, not an suv, so there's no cargo area to put him. The back seat is the only place.
Seat cover for dog in car?
Re: Seat cover for dog in car?
How about 1 or 2 inexpensive bathmats? Maybe you could find some at Goodwill.

Waterproof baby-crib sheet should work.

If the fitted crib size isn't large enough, you could go to twin or full size... this example is at ToysRus but Sears, BigLots, WalMart etc. should also have inexpensive selections.
Then, to cover the waterproof pad, you could get washable polyester "fleece" throws in just about any color - I get mine at Walgreen's, 2 for $10... these come in handy for so many things.
Are you able to harness Bear for safety in the back seat? I could not do this with my big dog, so I installed a barrier just behind the front seats , and filled in the floor space between the back and front seats with spare cushions, old pet beds and bags of plastic bags on their way to being recycled anything soft I would stuff inside plastic trash bags...

Oops - I just noticed you already know about the fleece blankets LOL. At least some good things come out of the global market, hey?
Re: Seat cover for dog in car?
I got the rugs, and they are working great. Bear is much more comfortable now (and any future passengers in my car will be, too!). I just got two of the smaller size rugs and they overlap in the middle and are exactly the right size for the depth of the seat. I went ahead and got new ones, because used bathroom rugs just sound a little gross to me... But it was a $12 fix.
Another great way to get fleece blankets is to go to the fabric store. You can get a ton of different patterns there. Then you just have to finish the edges (or just leave them, the dog doesn't care). My mom made the fleece blanket for the car, and it is red and black and has skulls all over it.
He's kind of large to get a harness for. But he behaves really great in the car. He just lays down on the seat when the car is moving. The only time he's stood up while I've been driving is when I was stopped for a train, and he wanted to check that out. I may look in to padding the foot well of the back seat, though. That sounds like a good idea.
