A stray dog found with severe burns covering his back two months ago is now in the care of a loving family.
The dog known to the folks at the Siouxland Humane Society as "Chance" now has another chance at life.
Terry Coon, McCook Lake, SD resident, says "We saw him on t.v. and our hearts just went out, so we came down seen him and got hooked."
You can say there was an instant connection between Terry Coon and "Chance."
Coon says "When I got the phone call on Tuesday, I was like all right, so you know I told my wife and she said oh I knew this day was coming. So, she said go for it."
So, Coon being an avid pet lover did. As he adopted Chance Saturday morning, he gave him a new life and a new name, Jimmy.
Amanda Cook, Siouxland Humane Society, says "We're happy to see him go but we're also going to miss him, because all the staff has become very fond of him."
Folks at the Siouxland Humane Society have helped in the recovery process. When they received the dog two months ago, he was badly burned the entire length of his back. Someone apparently poured boiling water and other chemicals on him. Now, Jimmy is dressed up in a t-shirt to cut back on the scratching.
Cook says "We've all been working with him so much and seeing his recovery along, that yeah we have a soft spot in our heart for him."
Now, it's time for the folks at the Humane Society to say goodbye. Coon says he'll send them photos so they can add them to their tales of success.
After the adoption was complete, Coon and Jimmy spent Saturday relaxing, having some fun and, more importantly, bonding together.
