Fri Hot Dog

Post by momPaws »

well, it didn't quite get to 100 here today, but almost. Do pups have a hard time with the heat as they get older...Honey can't handle the 90's and wants to come in...this pic was taken when it was NICE (70's!!)

Great pic - Honey is very proud looking dog, beautiful, too.

Dogs seem to become more intolerant of heat as they age...for the past few years of her life, Roxy couldn't handle anything above 80 degrees. It made walking her in the summer in SoCal a challenge cause there are times when it stays hot all night. We hosed her down before and after walks when it was above 80 and toke a spray bottle to spray her neck and face along with water for her to drink on our walks. Other than walks, when it was hot, she stayed in the AC cooled house.

Seems like if it was too hot for me, it was way too hot for Roxy.

That is a great pic of a beautiful dog! Mr. Blue doesn't...

...seem to realize right away that he doesn't like the heat. The last couple of days, when it's been up to around 90 and humid, I just kept his walks and time outside short. He assumed I was being mean to him :D , even though I explained I was doing it for him. He wants to keep going, and then just seems to realize it's too hot, and wants to slow down/stop. I make sure his outside water bowl is always full and, like jdf, bring along a water bottle on his walk. I give him drinks, and rub some water on his back and chest. It's a lot cooler here tonight, and it feels great! Hopefully it will head your way soon!
