The dog left behind...

Post by Marty »

I really got a strong feeling tonight that Biscotti realized Winnie wasn't coming back this time... :(

She started reverse sneezing, and for an hour I kept putting my hand over her nose to make her gulp. It usually works quickly, but didn't this time. She didn't want to eat, even with a few bites of steak over her kibble. Took her out for a walk and she was fine until she got home, and it started all over. It was almost like a panic attack in a human. So I gave her some valerian (which I sometimes do during storms, and she tolerates it well), and she is now sleeping.

Winnie was very food motivated, and ready to eat anyone's uneaten food...I didn't let her, but...Biscotti may sense the challenge is over???

Please use caution with herbs, there's little to no evidence they are safe or effective...and make sure your vet knows you're giving them since they can interact with other medications or other supplements.

It may stress or something else altogether, maybe you should have her seen. While she could be suffering depression and stress from Winnie's absense, stress can lead to health problems, so keep a close eye on her and get her examined if the symptoms persist, worsen or other symptoms develop.

I don't normally use herbs, but this one I have found helpful to relax and fall asleep for me. I will keep a close eye on her and not use it regularly...it might have just been the rainy day. She isn't on any regular medications, just a very occasional rimadyl (like twice a year) when it gets so cold that her arthritis acts up.
