Well, the boys probably won't be very excited when the day comes, but they are sure enjoying the process right now...
Moving
Re: Moving
They are adorable. And boxes are so much fun! My cats adjusted fairly quickly when we moved, I hope yours do to.
Re: Moving
Well, the boys have (maybe) survived the move. Yesterday we moved pretty much everything. Pat and Spike hid in the cupboard under the bathroom sink, and Captain Hook hid in his usual spot under the covers on the floor at the foot of the bed. The guys came in to move the bed, and we just piled the covers off the end of the bed over Captain Hook, and he was too terrified to move. Then, when we had everything else loaded, we started picking up the blankets. There he was, under the very bottom one. Lifted off the sheet, and he just flattened himself onto the floor and couldn't even move. Then slowly slithered away behind a box. Poor little guy.
I left them at the old place while we moved all the stuff into the new place. Then I had a little party at my place. Went back to get them after all the people had left. Nobody was very excited about the car ride, but it was only about 15 minutes. Got them into the new place and they checked it out. I closed all the doors upstairs and slept downstairs on the couch, so for the first night they only had to deal with the basement and first floor.
Pat woke me up at 2am needing some reassurance (or something), sitting on me, purring like mad, and not letting me sleep. Then he woke me up again at 5am, when he decided to jump onto the shelf hanging on the wall above the couch I was sleeping on. Not a very good idea. The shelf is only about 3 inches wide, and I had put some small vases up there. Of course, he managed to knock one down, which broke and then hit me in the arm. Fortunately, the 3 broken pieces all landed away from me, and the part that hit my arm was not broken. Still a nasty bruise, though. Then Pat and Spike woke me up at 7am when they discovered the blinds. Oh boy. Captain Hook spent the night hiding in the basement, but came out to say hi in the morning.
This afternoon, my roommate moved most of her stuff in. She had her brothers helping her, and one of the brother's 2 young kids in tow. Cats decided to hide. Pat and Spike went for the bathroom cupboard, and Captain Hook went for the space under the very lowest stair in the basement. The kids found Pat and Spike... Spike managed to find refuge in the kitchen sink cupboard. Pat wasn't as smart. He got picked up by the little girl (maybe 3?) and carried around a few times. He was a pretty good sport about it, though. I think Pat would be okay with kids if he was around them more.
Things have quieted down now, so hopefully the dudes will adjust pretty quickly, especially since it's all the same furniture and stuff (unlike the last move). Of course, Captain Hook is afraid of strangers, so it's probably going to take at least a few days before he comes out during the day because of my roommate.
I'm excited, because I actually have a basement to put the litterboxes in, so they won't be in my bedroom anymore! The plan is to eventually have all three boxes in the laundry/utility room, with the door shut, and the vent at the bottom of the door removed to give them a kitty door. Right now, I've got two boxes in the laundry room with the door open, and the other box at the very top of the basement stairs. That's going to have to move in a few days, as soon as they get settled, since it's in the kitchen. Not a great place for a litter box.
Anyway, just thought I'd update you on the very exciting move.

Re: Moving
Please watch all the cats very closely in the next several weeks. Moving is the number one cause of stress that oftentimes leads to hepatic lipidosis, since the cats are scared, not eating/drinking sufficiently, losing weight as a result. So please watch them like a hawk, if any symptoms develop, no matter how slight, vet visit please.

Re: Moving
You have shelves? With things on them? We know of no such things here in this house!
Congrats and good luck in the new place.
