Hi...
One of our cats has the same "butt over the edge" problem sometimes. Something I've found that helps is to put one of those doggie housebreaking pads under the litter box. They are a pad about 18" square that is super absorbant cloth on the top and thin plastic underneath, and used for potty training puppies so when they go on the pad it doesn't leak through to the floor underneath. I put one of these under our kitty's litterbox and helps control any over-the-edge leaks from ending up on the carpet. They are relatively cheap and you just throw out the soiled one and replace with new. Our cat only leaks over the edge once in a while so fortunately they don't have to be replaced every day! Hope this helps.
