Change in pet policy

Post by momPaws »

Well they said on news that now with Rita they are letting ppl take their pets with them when they evacuate and even to shelters- HURRRAH !!
I think this will...save lives (since many would not leave their animals), save pet's lives, increase morale, lessen impact on shelters!

THey found out that 86% of the people who stayed and survived stayed because they couldn't take their pets. If the proportion ot those who died is the same, then over 860 bodies they have, probably wouldn't be in the morque if the no pet policy had not existed. ......

Isn't it amazing that the insurers, and 'powers that be' (who/whatever they are) have been afraid of damage animals MIGHT do in a shelter situation, when they should be worried about what human beings can (and will and DID) do to each other. The same proplem with evacuations occurred here in Florida during the 2004 hurricane season, but even after 3 major hurricanes, by the time Jeanne came around, there was one (and only one) shelter allowing pets. (There had been none up to that point).

It is sad when you think what tragedies (human and animal) might have been prevented if people could have gone somewhere their animals were welcome.

Skeptic - you and Cheryl, and all those involved on the front lines of the animal rescue, are doing a phenomenal job. I hope the situation really will change in the future so you will have a much easier job should somethng like this ever happen again (Heaven Forbid!).
