I don't know how it is in your state, but I believe if there is reason to suspect abuse or neglect in a family, then Family Services is obligated to investigate.

If it can't be you, has the girlfriend seen enough to report it? If children are involved, I would think nearly anyone could report to request an investigation.

I'm not trying to persuade you to get into a situation you may not be able to handle, Tambrey, just voicing my concerns. Of course, where animal abuse or child abuse/neglect may be a concern, don't leave room for doubt. You certainly know the situation better than I, follow your heart and your instincts and your knowledge of the situation, and for heaven's sake, don't ever go to the aunt's house without your hubby (again, don't know the situation, but your safety is important)

Just read the link to your vet's story....sounds like he's an angel

Btw and related to the link, (shameless plug): stained glass is our very own Cleo's forte...I now have 6 pieces of her work, I can't say enough about them....gorgeous, intricate, stunning, the love and care she put into them is clearly evident...oh, and did I say gorgeous!!

I too don't know how it is in your state, but, in Florida, once the Dept of Children and Families gets involved, it usually becomes a nightmare, especially for the children. THey an be yanked from their homes without due process. Once their gone, it can be months to get them back, and the abuse and neglect in some foster homes can be worse then what they left. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to make a call if the children are being abused, but it might be better to explore animal cruelty charges first. Since the injury is indirectly related to the son's actions, it would probably be a misdemeanor neglect charge that could be plea bargained into a fine and anger management clesses. It might be enough to wake him up.

A question - does this person have a drinking or drug problem, or is he just a jerk all by himself?
