Oh don't get me wrong, I was deeply in love with India. I still love it but I only become really aware of it when I visit the West, for then I suddenly miss the fragrances, the birds, the beautiful faces, the abundance of color, the warm weather, the extreme rains ... When you live here it's often hard and frustrating, there is just so much that goes wrong all the time. But India is definitely moving, after dragging its feet for 5,000 years. Many many areas of life are developing and becoming modernized, people are waking up and are DOING something. It's good to see.

I don't know the word Thugieism?

Heard of Kali, but not of the extreme rituals. But India has a few of them, that's for sure. There are rural areas where they still worship the first fridge or TV of the village - very backwards, and old believes and traditions, and no education, no hygiene are the rule. Even secret sati, burning of the widow alive, or killing of female infants. My vet just had a baby, and a while back I asked her, boy or girl. She told me that in India it's illegal to test for the *beep* of the child, because many would then opt for an abortion if it's a girl. Financial reasons, dowry. Dowry is also illegal now, but still demanded.

Thanks for that info. If it wasn't so gruesome it would be an interesting read. I didn't know about that cult. A revival you say?
