HELP! Cats open the sliding patio door!

Post by mamawanty »

My cats can slide open the patio screen door...naughty! :( Does anyone have any suggestions for a device to attach to the door to keep them from doing this? Thanks! :D

You can buy handles with locks on them for the screen door...

but you can also get a piece of thick doweling (closet rod) and lay it in the track at the bottom of the door...make sure it is long enough to keep the door shut...

I've got the dowel trick going on for the closet in my bedroom. It works very well.

Thanks for your suggestions...but our patio door is opposite from the normal...the screen is on the inside track! Ugh! Do they make the locks so you can unlock from the outside, too? We sit out on the patio alot and have to keep getting up to shoo the cats from opening the door.

Go to home depot or a hardware store, ask an employee for a flip latch (you will have to install it), it can be flipped open or closed from inside or outside.
