They're really trying to get it together (finally!)
I should start out by saying that for many years our SPCA was an awful place with completely unenlightened leadership. The leadership changed about two years ago. (and a friend of mine got appointed to the Board of Directors) The leadership has been slowly but surely trying to change things. They've now raised enough money to buy two acres on which to build a new SPCA. They've gotten a website and have begun to be open on Saturdays so people who work can see the animals (they close at 4:30 each day so working people had a tough time getting in there to look for lost or adoptable animals). They held their first Adopt-A-Thon the beginning of May and adopted out 46 animals! They have joined with Petfinder.com (www.petfinder.org) so some of the animals at our shelter are now on the Web through them. These are HUGE milestones, believe me!
Thank you, Rainey Green (Director), and the board of Northwest SPCA. I know there's a long way to go.......May the momentum continue and the dream that the NWSPCA can become a no-kill shelter be realized....
I'm so proud of my SPCA.....
