Getting the cats out

Post by GotGatos »

I posted on the health board last week about a litter of kittens that was in my crawlspace. To cut to the chase, I let them stay there for ~4 weeks and the mom never came back so I took the kittens out and took them to the humane society last Monday.

I've been moving my office, so the crawlspace took backseat to everything else. Well this afternoon I hear a catfight (I hope it was a fight and not more kittenbirth) ... you guessed it, in the crawlspace. I started to open the entryway to the crawlspace and was met with the unmistakable sounds of a cat growling at me. I'm really not very brave when it comes to wild cats so I eased the door back down and waited a few minutes. Then I eased it open again and there was a cat staring back at me. Not growling, just looking at me wondering where I came from. I could hear another one growling off to the side. I put the lid back down and went around the house with my flashlight and sure enough! They have pushed in the vent on the foundation. It's under the deck but I think I can belly crawl back there to put it back in.

BUT how do I get these cats out of the crawlspace? I have a Havahart trap that I could use, but I don't know if they would be too wary for that also I would have to take the cat up through an opening in my closet floor (the access to the crawlspace) and through the house. I'm not sure exactly how I can do that without the cat or me or both getting hurt. And, there is more than one cat, too. Suggestions on a way to drive them out? I really can't have cats living in my crawlspace but I don't want to see them come to harm either.
