Thanks all! She is settling in very easily, the first night went real good! Ex and her have bonded nicely. They are going for thier first walk in the morning he got a gentle leader is there any problem with training on that at her age? She is very gentle playful but not rambunctious so I don't think it should be a problem but never used one before so I would like opinions please, also what do you all think of training classes? When should he start with them? Thanks!
Re: Christmas Puppy
So glad to hear y'all are doing well! Here are my answers to at least a couple of questions:
Yes, it is very good IMO to begin with a Gentle Leader, especially for this type of dog, playful but not rambunctious. [My `Eowyn's middle name could be "Rambunctious" and besides that I didn't hear about the Gentle Leader until 'Wyn was 3 or 4 years old, and by then it was too late for her - she hated it and resisted like crazy so I had to give up; saw the thing the other day in her gear bag, waiting for some other dog...] I bought this item new and it came with a video. I don't know if the video can be obtained separately, but some basic instructions are on this site:

Yes, 4 months is just the right age to begin basic obedience training. Start slow, be patient and gentle, don't expect instant success. If neither handler* knows much about this, I suggest finding out the correct basic rules for training a companion dog before getting into it: bad habits are easy for a pup to learn, very difficult to unlearn... There are a jillion websites on this subject, but IMO the two best ways for new owners to start off right are:
1. Visit a book store pronto and purchase a simple, straightforward book on basic rules on how to raise a puppy.
2. At the same time, ask about dog training classes in your neighborhood: The vet, local pet stores** and the humane society or shelter are likely places to have this info.
* When a dog is trained by more than one non-professional handler, it is important for all handlers to agree on exactly which methods/rules/procedures will be followed.
** If there is a PetSmart or similar store in your area, you can take care of both things - the book and classes - at one time.
Good luck and have fun!

She refuses to get up with the gentle leader treats or not! So we gave up and put a regular collar on and she walks just fine. Took her to the park and she was great! Socialized just fine and didn't pull or tug with the reg.collar and leach. So I guess that is how we will keep it. Thanks for the replys. Her classes don't start to after the new year so we will make the best of it until then.
