Hi,
I'm Jennifer, I have two cats, Alaska and Sahara:
I've sent my bf off to the store to buy clippers as what you see in those photos costs almost a hundred bucks! Grooming is a big issue as I need to keep a clean house! (who doesn't?!)
However, I'm afraid I don't have a clue how to shave them! I want to try the Lion Cut they're used to having - any suggestions?
Next, today we finally found out what the funky smell was in our gym and bedroom closets. Seems that the cats have been peeing and pooping in there at night - now I figure this happened last night because the smell was pretty strong this morning. They're litter box is clean, they have their food and water, we actually regularly mix their food so they have a bit of a variety, that never seemed to be a problem before...
Anyway, perhaps it could be the change of season? Or the fact that we were on vacation spending lots of quality time with them and now we're both back at work?
Alaska yaks every two weeks or so but found the answer in another post... I am loving this forum! Thank you!
Jennifer.

Welcome Jennifer,
I would strongly suggest asking a local groomer if you can observe a kitty grooming before you start on your own. Also ensure you investigate the type of clippers before you purchase. Most clipper sets found in pet-stores are not suitable for full grooming procedures that take considerable time to finish. A typical lion-cut for a cat can take up to half an hour or more to finish, so it's important that the clippers you have do not get hot within the first 10 minutes of using (most low-priced 'pet-clippers' do indeed get extremely hot after only 5 minutes of use). Hot clippers can burn and scald sensitive skin. If you are going to make a long-term habit of grooming your cats at home, you would really fair better with a professional clipper set (Like Andis, Oster, pro series)
You can also find grooming books that include types of cuts/directions in most pet stores, or ask your groomer what he/she recommends.

I would also like to add that it's better to brush them, then bathe them and then clip them last. I get a few of mine done at the vets with the lion cut, it's really nice.
