Frankie was turned in one Saturday by his owner. He is a white chow. His coat was all matted, where it existed and he was covered in Scabbies. This proved to be lucky for him. Saturday we do not have a vet available for euthanasias, the normal end for dogs that come in such bad shape. Frankie won us over with his temperment and gentleness. He sat quietly while the volunteers and workers shaved off the worst of the mats. When they were done, he was almost bald. I took some pictures that I sent to all of the chow rescues I could find on the web, and posted his picture on one bulletin board, with the lament that come normal operations on Tuesday, Frankie would go to the Bridge. It was that picture that saved Frankie's life. On Tuesday morning when we got to the shelter we had several e-mails and phone calls about Frankie, almost all of them from Chow rescue in Oregon, one of the ones I did not send his picture to. Several e-mails and phone calls later and arrangements were made to have Frankie treated for his illnesses by a local vet, from a special fund raised for Frankie on that same bulletin board on the net. Each week, as Frankie's treatments progressed I e-mailed his picture to those who were working for his rescue. I am happy to report that on Wednesday, Frankie will be flying to Washington DC, where a rescue lady will collect him and deliver him to his forever home! Here are the two latest pictures I took of Frankie. On Tuesday if anyone is interested I will post the pictures of him when he arrived at our shelter.
He is a true chow, loving and gentle to people and other dogs and cats, but this does not extend to normal prey, as we found out when an unfortunate hen made the mistake of coming into the kennel yard while Frankie was out. RIP little hen.

I do love to hear the happy ending stories. All too often it's easy to forget that there are happy endings. Was the previous owner charged with neglect or anything to have turned in a dog is such bad shape?
By the way Skeptic, what ever happend with the "old Chow" did he finally end up getting his transport and into rescue?

Oh my, his condition was so shocking, I didn't even recognize him that it was the same dog! That poor dog, I'm so gald he did not end up getting euthed. His condition has most definitely improved since your first pics of him. Give him a big hug for me if you can, I'm so happy he's going to his new home.
