To make a long story short (or try) about three years ago our beloved cat, at the age of 17 started pooping on the carpet in the basement we don't really use the basement but still- not nice to have a battlefield of poop down there. We had two litterboxes for her and sometimes she'd use them but there was so much poop everywhere else too. As a good deed to my mom, I dedicated a weekend to cleaning it.
This sucked as there was an assortment of poop- firm, runny, you name it, she made it.
As I'd visit my mom I nocticed our cat undid all my hard work- and with a vengance!
After having our cat for 20 years, her health probelms were too much and we sadly had to put her to sleep a couple of weeks ago.
My mom is going on a trip for 2 weeks and my sister and I want to clean it up for her (we considered just replacing the rug but it would be too expensive)
while she's gone.
I just used hot water and a rag or brush with oxy clean and that did a pretty good job last time I tackled this, but does anyone have any good methods or know of any miracle products to loosen up dried cat poop in carpet?
Thanks for your help

Wow, what a project; you've sure got your work cut out for you!
I don't know if you have these in your area, but you can rent carpet cleaners (like a soap/wet vaccum cleaner) from hardware stores. That's what I'd do. After you're done vaccuming I'd try Nature's Miracle ("enzymatic stain and odor remover") or a similar product to work on the smell. Good luck and have fun!

I third the Nature's Miracle suggestion, however, you can also try hydrogen peroxide...or even clear carbonated soda, like ginger ale. (need to colorfast an area first)

I'm a little late chiming in here, but maybe this will still help someone.
Nature's Miracle is a great enzyme cleaner, but I've found that "Pet Spotter" from Home Depot also works pretty well and is far less expensive... it is also an enzymatic cleaner, although I don't think it's "as good" as Nature's Miracle.
Several months ago, I opted to buy a Hoover carpet steam cleaner and now I don't know how I lived without it with 5 cats and 3 dogs.
