grrrrr...vent..some people!! (RE: Amber)
Remember I told you we were petsitting Amber/Wicket? Well, her "owner" has not called to check on her in a week. So far we've heard nothing about his timeline for taking her back, he hasn't given Bridget any money for food or litter Essentially I have the gut feeling (and I had this the first day she came here) he doesn't want to take her back, and that breaks my heart for Amber. Personally, right now I don't think I'd want him to take her back because it seems he doesn't care. Can you believe it??? Why do people adopt animals if they don't want the responsibility? I don't have his phone number, but let me tell you when I get it he is going to get an earful....
I think he found a caring soul in Bridget and took advantage of her good heart

Hi Tina,
Maybe this is a blessing in disguise...I hate to say this, but you have to question how Wicket/Amber was treated in this person's care...when you first post about this situation, you said Amber/Wicket was not her sweet self and hisses at everything...and now this.
Hard to tell what was going on under his care but I wonder???
Thanks for caring about all these kitties and being so good to all who cross your path..

Lisa...I've thought the same thing myself...I hate to say it but I have. My daughter says she thinks he really loved Amber, but why isn't he calling to check on her if he did??? On the one hand I don't want him to have her back...on the other hand, if he calls how do I tell him that?? She's getting along great here right now, her and Khanada have hit it off well...that is until Khanada gets fed up with being chased and starts hissing

Tina,
Maybe your gut feeling about him not wanting to take her back is right on target...and you're off the hook. You see it, Tina......no number to reach him, no calls about how she's doing, no $$ for Amber's basic neccessities never mind a way to fund any vet visits that may need to occur... He doesn't sound like a responsible owner to me.
If you're asking for my advise, I would suggest first to talk objectively about what you have seen in Amber's behavior upon arrival and it appeared to more than just getting readjusted to the environment your home and how she has been doing great during this time. You can ask him if he has any idea why she behaved like that on her arrival which gives him the chance to give his side.
Then I would give him the heart to heart talk about "pet owner responsibilities" which you have more witnessed first hand that he is failing in this area. It's like he abandoned Amber. You can maybe work in that Amber/Wicket and him may not be a good fit, may not be a good time for him, may not have the money or patience for a kitty and you would be willing to keep her or adopt her out later, etc. You are giving him an out then..
or based on his reaction, you can determine how responsible he really is and whether you really want to give Amber back...
I hope this helped...I really hope he doesn't call but if he does, I'd love to hear about it..
Take cake Tina and give all your furbabies a big hug and kiss from us..

Re: grrrrr...vent..some people!! (RE: Amber)
Thanks for your concern and thoughts Lisa...still no word from him...all his friends keep telling Bridget that he loves Amber and of course he wants her back...and I keep saying "why doesn't he check on her then????!!!"
I'm with you, I am hoping he doesn't call deep down inside...it would make it somewhat easier...but I want to know one way or another so I can think about what to do with Amber if he really doesn't want her back. Everytime I look at her little face I think "why would someone NOT want that sweetie?"

IMHP, I think, Tina, that when one of his friends tell Bridget that he still loves Amber and wants her back, that Bridget oughtta get that friend of his to give her his phone #, OR, at least get some kind of way to contact him. Surely his "friends" know of one way!
Yer really between a rock and a hard spot, and I think it stinks.
It's time to find out NOW! if he really wants Amber back or not. You, Bridget, and Amber need to get on with yer lives.......and hopefully, Amber will be able to get on with hers at your place!

Re: grrrrr...vent..some people!! (RE: Amber)
thanks bluburd...actually my daughter has his number...why she hasn't confronted him I don't know...partly because she's not good at confrontation, partly because he is in her circle of friends and I guess she doesn't want to make waves. She did tell me last night that her boyfriend, who lives near Ambers "owner" asked him what he planned to do about Amber, and he said he would be getting a place next week and take her back. Bridget thinks I've been a bit to hard on the guy, but she's lucky I haven't spoken to him We will see what happens next week. Oh...and I found out, he's not 22, he's 27!!! I think old enough to know responsibility

I'm just wondering.......
Perhaps Bridget doesn't want to confront the guy 'cos she's afraid that he'll really want Amber back, and she doesn't want to give Amber back........
Ya think maybe?
