Spay question

Post by Marty »

Buffy got spayed on Thurs, and all went well...some adhesions from her C-section though. When I picked her up Fri morn, the Vet said she had some bloody discharge that morning, which was OK. I *think* he said it may happen again. She had a little this morning...I checked her incision, and all looked good there, so it's not the incision. Just double checking...

Nother question...he gave us 7 rimadyl tablets...one per day. I'm thinking about not using the rest...she seems to feel too good! And I know I need to keep her inactive.

Do you have a question, or are you commenting?

Does she have absorbable sutures or those that require removing? Don't know your vet's suture technique but if the bleeding continues, I would get her seen promptly, blood shouldn't be present past one day or so post-op. Also check for unusual swelling, bruising, painful abdomen, leaking of pus, anorexia, in which this would demand a prompt recheck. With bleeding, there could be a loose suture or open area that is susceptible to infection.

If the spay was on Thursday and she seems to be doing well, I wouldn't give the rimadyl at all.

What do you mean by adhesions from the c-section...do you mean scar tissue from a previous c-section she had prior? How long is the spay incision?

I guess I was asking a question...should she be having a vaginal discharge at this point? It hasn't happened again, and I just checked her incision again...it looks great...no redness, swelling, pulled stitches.

I think I'll stop the rimadyl...she needs to be quiet.

Sutures are not absorbable..we have to go back in 10 days to have them removed.

Adhesions..hmm...she is almost 4...had one and only litter about 4 months ago and needed a C-section to deliver. The spay showed adhesions to the mesentery (small intestine?). Doc said it shouldn't cause problems later on, but the spay could make more adhesions..The spay incision is about 3 inches.

Over all, he said we had a nice healthy dog here.

Was she in heat during the spay?

Were you referring to vaginal bleeding or were you referring to the spay incision bleeding? She shouldn't be having any vaginal discharge at all.
