Probably a dumb question about meds, but Davet is bored

and I am trying to stay awake for Winnie's next meds. I started thinking...Traci mentioned meds should stay in their original amber container, which I do. But Biscotti's rimadyl came in a blue container. Why????

Like cobalt blue? Was it a plastic bottle or something else? Standard pharmacy "issue" is usually amber, but there are other colors available. Some pharmacies might also have color-coded bottles for certain types of meds. Could also be your vet got a discount or bought a certain color in bulk.

The important thing is that light-sensitive medications are kept in their original container so they don't lose their effectiveness. (and for like you said, to avoid confusion of identification).

My vet also uses blue. Pain killers have been in blue, antibiotics in amber. Perhaps it's a way of helping them and us keep them straight?

Yes, it was cobalt blue.

Karen, you might be right, as I don't remember being given pain killers for the dogs before.

But then....wouldn't it be better to get dog meds in blue and human meds in amber? I do keep them separated, so I'm just rambling here.

My guess is your vet bought them for a discount or for identification purposes. Some supply places are providing them with paw prints on them now.

the colored glass, wether amber or glue blocks out certain light requencies that may change the comp of the meds...in a clear glass, in a cabinet iws also OK cause the exposure to light is minimal....cripes, glue should be blue but I don't care. really I don/;t
