Mr. Bingle is sick. ...
We are forcing fluids and giving some meds, but I think it is Parvo. Of course the parish won't pay for treatment, which would be expensive. Hopefully he is old enough and strong enough to survive with what help we can give. Pray for the little fellow. He deserves a chance at a good life.
We have had about 50% of the puppies that get Parvo survive with the treatment we are giving. The main thing seems to be maintaining fluid and electrolyte levels. (Chicken Noodle soup is one of the fluids we force. Very unscientific, but all that we have.)

I think you can get tetracyclaine or terramycine at pet stores for fish tanks, i think it costs a bundle but if necessary as a last resort it might help...but with parvo the only thing it does is prevnt secondary bacterial infection....does zilch against parvo but might if necessary hit secondary invadfrs

Re: Mr. Bingle is sick. ...
If vomiting, diarrhea and/or severe dehdration are present, do not give any chicken noodle soup....the soup may contain excessive amounts of salt and sodium which would exacerbate dehydration. Food should always be withheld until vomiting and diarrhea have ceased, then only fed in tiny amounts and the pup/dog monitored for any vomiting (low-fat, easily digestible). Water is a good fluid support, but ideally, IV fluid therapy is best. There are electrolyte solutions available from vets, but oral administration would be futile in dogs that are vomiting.
If the parish could look into it, getting IV fluids at cost may be productive, but a vet needs to be on hand to administer, monitor, etc. Even sub-q fluids could be of some benefit (sub-q only in dogs that are not vomiting)....ampicillin and oral b-complex vitamins could also be helpful.
If vomiting, diarrhea are not present, then bacterials such as campylobacter, clostridium, or parasitic infection should be ruled out.

Is Mr. Bingle at the shelter or at home? Traci writing re IV fluid reminds me ... a number of years ago, a friend who lived on board a boat was able to successfully administer IV to her beloved schipperke, "Gigi"... Friend was as inept/inexperienced at this sort of thing as I am, but with directions from the vet, she did OK... of course she was right there with the little dog all the time (I don't recall the sequence or frequency of the procedure(s)...
I agree little Mr. Bingle deserves a break... I'll keep him and his caretakers in my thoughts.
