Post by hayleym72 »

i have a 3 yr old german shep/collie cross who is wonderful! i was wondering though in general why dogs (and perhaps cats) if they are indoors alot need annual vaccinations? if they arent around other unknown animals then what could the possibly catch?

One, you never know what they were exposed to before you got them. Two, animals are crafty and there is always a chance that even the best-trained animal with the most attentive owner might get loose one day, and it's better to be safe than sorry. Three, some diseases can be passed on genetically, and vaccinations can take care of that concern. Four, you never know what kind of wild animals might sneak into your house or yard, if your dogs ever go outside, and there are all means of diseases that wild animals can carry.

That last one is the most important, because I don't know of anyone who doesn't allow their dogs outside for brief periods of time. Rats, raccoons, squirrels, other dogs, cats... any kinds of animals might sneak into your back yard, and it's much safer for your pets to be vaccinated and safe than to just try and stay lucky.

Please make sure all your pets are seeing vets and are properly vaccinated.

Feline Vaccinations.

Basic Vaccination Facts.

Vaccinating is part of pet owner responsibility. Please talk to your vet, he can answer all of your questions and recommend individual vaccination protocols for your pets.

Your kitty who was lost for 3 months is a good example. If he is not vaccinated, he could succomb to any number of fatal feline infectious diseases, because an unvaccinated pet is not protected from OTHER unvaccinated pets roaming the streets. So, if your kitty is unvaccinated, he can also transmit a deadly virus to your two NEW kittens, since I doubt they've been vaccinated either.

Get your pets to your vet for exams and he can then discuss vaccinations with you. He's the only one who can give them an individual vaccination protocol, and please, keep them up-to-date on their vaccinations as your vet recommends.

one little problem also if you step in dog pooh or freesh urine you can bring the virus critters in with you and a dog that never goes out or never had shots has absolutly no resitance
