Hello,

I would like to know if its possible for a dog ( or cat ) to contract Viral Meningitis from a human whom is infected with it?

Unlikely, but I would ask your vet about it...was the source of the infection determined?

Passage of viral meningitis human-to-human is uncommon. Most people infected with the same virus would develop respiratory symptoms, but would not develop meningitis. There are a few viruses that can infect humans and canines, so it would depend on which virus caused the infection. I suspect it is extremely unlikely that the infection would be passed human-to-canine, or canine-to-human, for that matter.

I agree with K9Karen, but have to admit that sometimes the "Impossible Happens." I know of a person who got HEARTWORMS!, Only they were in the eye, didn't get big and were easy to treat. They went to the eye doctor because they kept seeing "Spots." The doctor says he has seen about 4 or 5 similar cases in the last 20 years. I didn't ask where he has seen it, because on his "Vacation" he goes to other countries and treats the poor people there for free.
