Unfortunately, many pet owners still don't know this or will take matters into their own hands with dosing.

Many years ago when I lived in Tucson, we lived in a pet friendly duplex unit...there were 24 units and we all had dogs, cats and a couple of parrots!
One lady moved in, no pets, and the manager told her this was a noisy pet friendly place, but she said that was okay...
Soon afterwards, animals started getting sick, one pregnant woman had to lift her convulsitn german shepherd into her car and rush him to the ER...he was already on meds for some other problem, and the vet pumped his stomach and found evidence of ibuprofen...
We started to watch our places closely...
I came home one day, July 4th actually, to find my fence broken!! The girl across the way came over and said she had my dog at her place...she said she walked by and saw some tablets and broke the fence to get to Bryn, but she thought he had eaten some...sure enough, he began throwing up and was sick for two days...
I was lucky too...
The police were called, but even though the dogs growled when this woman walked by, the police could not take their "word" for it that she was dangerous...the manager set up a lawn chair on a neighbor apartment roof and had a long range camera to try to get pictures of her...he never could...
The police came and told her, just in general, that someone had been trying to poison the local dogs, and that it was a felony...soon after their visit, she moved and the problems ended...
They investigated and found that every place this woman had lived before, there were reports of poisoned, or dead, animals...

Sorry to drag up an old post ...
In the article davet posted the link to it says the only OTC pain medication sometimes used for dogs and cats is aspirin. But all of the vets here have been advising me to give half or a quarter of a paracetamol tablet (250/125mg) if one of my animals was in pain.
Any comment on that?
