I noticed this last summer...one day when I was walking my dog Nikki in teh backyard, she pulled me to a particular area, sniffed for a while and proceeded to roll around in that spot. When I moved her away, I saw that what she was rolling over was a young snake which had met its fate with the lawn mower. Nikki has also done this with dead mice.
Is it normal for dogs to roll in dead things like this, or is my dog just psychotic?

they love to put perfume on like that....once we took our old fat dog to a lake and she found a rolling spot which we ignored untill she was done when we noticed the old very dead very rotton fish..it was a long drive home...but apparantly all dogs dp this for some form of identificationl

I seem to remember something about canids using strong scents to mask their own scent. It fools the 'bad guys'!
