Frog's legs to go?

Post by momPaws »

Yikes, with all the rain we've had there was a little (about inch long) frog in the yard yesterday. Tonight when Honey went out it looked like she was trying to eat something...I yelled at her and she came in..don't know if she ate it or if was the frog.
A while back I remember something on this board about frogs being poisonous to dogs..anyone have any info on this???

We had a discussion about this some time ago, it was decided to try to identify the frog for your vet, in which he can then determine if it is toxic or not. There are a few frogs that can emit a toxic substance to pets, some varieties do not....geographical region plays a role in identification/toxicity.

I don't recall much of the frog discussion... Living as I do on an island in a swamp, I've never worried much about frogs, which are plentiful and which I think are cute... But TOADS... ugh! I wouldn't purposefully harm any creature, but Winnie found a large toad in a dank spot by the back fence not ago - apparently she just sniffed and didn't actually touch - but I was wondering the same thing as Mompaws, and seem to dimmly remember some varieties of toad emit a toxic substance through the skin which can harm animals and people? Maybe someone can find us a link about this...

have you ever stoped to think that when you are eating frogs legs, there are thousand of frogs getting around legless in wheele chairs or on crutches...that really must spoil a frogs day when they hear someone orde frogs legs....they don;t volunteer.

davet- you have a unique mind....but not to worry about me- had em once and that was enough. And maybe Honey doesn't like em either since she is fine and no more frog sitings...ribbit
