Pebbles is getting spayed on Tuesday
She will be 7 months on Thursday and now weighs 5 1/2 lbs so it's time. I am so nervous about this as I lost Nugget (my first Pom) to complications from surgery when she was 6 mths old. I have since changed vets and have confidence that she knows what she is doing but I still can't help worrying Do you think she's big enough to go through this?

Mikey is a full grown 5 1/2 lbs and has had (unfortunately) many surgery and done fine. Do preop bloodwork to screen the liver and kidneys. Ask your vet to use Isoflurance gas only, no ket/val or telazol to induce. I lost an almost 6 month old puppy under anesthesia last spring. It is really stressful worrying about them. Try to keep busy that day. We'll keep her in our thoughts.

Yes, her weight is adequate....you can of course opt for a presurgical blood screen, although it probably will show normal liver and kidney function.
I think we talked about this in another thread some time ago....while it is sad and unfortunate about your loss of Nugget, sometimes we cannot explain an arrest or recovery problems from anesthesia.
You can of course request your vet call you when Pebbles is awake from anesthesia, this may help your apprehension until you can bring her home. Hang in there and try not to worry ( I know, it's hard).

Thanks JMM and Traci...I will have the pre-op blood work done as a precaution but I too think they will turn out normal...Pebbles is very healthy, no signs of hypoglycima or trachea problems. I think she will be fine other than being upset at being away from home.

as a too late addendum but i always told clients the most dangerous part of spaying was the drive to and from the office...i assume she is done and home now...

in the mean time, worry about something else, life is too short to worry about this.....you vet is experienced in this, even though he/she just got out of aschool......and besides if he/she has any female Techs, they will walk arounf half the day, talking and singing to you kitten...we should all have it so good...
