Amanda is doing much better today.

Post by Amandasmom »

Amanda is 1000 x's better today. She is getting around pretty well on 3 legs and is occasionally walking on all 4. She is eating normally and getting adjusted to being confined.

Here is her incision, I know you guys like to see stuff like this.

GREAT! :D

Looks like a very nice incision/suturing job. Only the shaver must have slipped and the area looks a little inflamed, but I guess that's normal or maybe it's just the picture.
The pigmentation is very interesting - have always been wondering.

Amanda, please take it easy and you gonna be like new, in no time. :)

AM, I'm not questioning you, but what were your vet's instructions regarding limiting activity? (are you using a sling method to help her around?)

Glad to hear she's doing so much better at home now.

No jumping, no running, no stairs and no rough housing. Leash walks only. Just outside to pee then back in the house. They told me only to use the sling when the floor is too slippery for her to get a good footing. I had to bed on the floor for both of Remy's TPLO surgerys and he did great. She can step on to it without jumping. She is also on Carprofen which is making her very stinky.

The rehab info suggest allowing the dog to stand on her own with gentle shifting of the weight from side to side. The want her to begin using the leg as soon as possible to prevent atrophy. Walking is kept at a minimum for the first week. Clockwise circles with the bad leg on the inside of the circle.

Thanks, AM.....sounds reasonable. You know her best and know when pain might necessitate more restriction. Sounds like she's being a real trooper through all of this

I hope the redness and irritation disappears soon. Does she try to lick it any to soothe it? She is so lucky to have a good "Mom" looking after her. She is such a pretty girl.

She licks it a little bit but is mostly leaving it alone. I'm giving her lots of toys and treats to distract her from it.
