Just a quick question--
Hub and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to getting new living room furniture. We have to couch potato bassetts. I really want some durable leather but he thinks that the puppers nails, even clipped short, would tear it up in no time? Anyone have any experience with this?
Re:
Personally, I wouldn't have leather with pets, but it's a personal preference. Basset nails are usually pretty blunt, so you may not have a problem. This may sound alittle nutty, but maybe get a leather swatch somewhere, put in on your couch and see how that goes for awhile, then you can see how the swatch fairs with the dogs.

Leather Couch
My Doberman has put several deep cuts in our leather couch in the den. Mainly, because she has to turn around and around about sixty times before she finds the right spot.
I like my leather furniture...
Zeke, our golden, is only allowed on the leather stuff. I was concerned about that when we got ours, but it has been almost 2 years now and hasn't put any scratches in it yet. It is great just to be able to wipe it down and the hair does not accumilate on it as much. I think one thing you want to make sure of is that the dye goes all the way through the leather and that is isn't just surfaced dyed.
I am the person you are looking for
I have 2 Bassets, and leather furmiture and I love it. Have had no problems in a year. My furniture is pretty good stuff by Lane. I would stay away from the suede (I don't think you could keep it clean with dogs or kids). Some leather seems soft and thin...I'm not sure if that would work either. But what I have, I am sure will outlast any upholstered furniture. In fact, I am thinking of trading in the recliner...but Lazy Boy did say there was a lifetime guarantee on the upholstery. After just 3 years, I may test them.

Not sure,
But they have new fabrics out there that will outlast leather by a long shot. We had herculon on out old sofa and it lasted from 78 to 90 with no holes or tears. The new one did fine until the puppies arrived and chewed holes in the armrest and one cushion. ......
